Another poem written by Maya Angelou in the 1970's called "Still I Rise" is a perfect example of a civil rights activist during war time. She taunts people in her poem, showing the reader how far she's come and her successes through her words. She talks about her ancestors and slavery and relates them to the present. She is proud of herself, her sex, and the color of her skin. Also, shes so proud of her prosperity and isn't afraid to rub it in the faces of white men.
